Some of you may be familiar with the Twestival events which took place across the world last month - bringing together groups of Twitterers in their respective towns and cities to raise money and awareness for charity: water, a non-profit organisation bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. As of today, the events have raised a combined $250,000USD - a pretty impressive feat which, to put into context will enable charity: water to work on 55 water projects in Ethiopia, Uganda and India, therefore bringing clean water for just over 17,000 people.

You can see @amanda, the global organiser of the events, explaining more on Sky News via a live Skype video call:

Skype played its part in some of the European events, by sponsoring the events and providing a live high quality Skype video call link between the London Twestival and the French Twestivals in Paris, Lille and Clermont-Ferrand. People talked, waved, shouted and danced with their counterparts - and while it wasn’t quite as good as being there, it was the next best thing.

Twestival was a great opportunity to bring people together to raise money for charity, and it’s cool that Skype was able to cross the channel to join the events in London and France - I’m just sorry that (with my @peteratskype hat on) I missed out. Here’s to the next one…
